Advocating for the Cardroom Industry

CGA is dedicated to protecting the industry’s interests through monitoring the legislative and regulatory processes, advocating for policies that support the industry, and educating policymakers about the positive impact cardrooms have on California communities.

Issues may include:

  • Licensed games
  • Player-dealer regulations
  • Sports betting; i-poker, eSports
  • Policies impacting the hospitality industry
  • Policies impacting tribal and off-reservation gaming
  • Expansion of cardroom gaming

CGA successfully helped defeat Assembly Bill 5 by Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher. The legislation would have required an employer with 10 or more employees to offer additional hours of work to an existing nonexempt employee before hiring an additional employee or subcontractor. The bill would have authorized an employee to file a complaint for violation and bring a civil action.

CGA leadership is in regular communication with the various state agencies that oversee the cardroom industry. We work to maintain an open line of communications and have invited representatives to provide informational seminars on compliance.
